The Breakout Signal
New 52-week high after 20+ days of consolidation. Classic breakout.
What it detects
Breakout is the standard momentum entry: a stock printing a new 52-week high after at least 35 sessions without one, on volume at least 40% above normal. The consolidation requirement means it fires on emergence from a base, not on day three of a runaway move.
How Signal52 computes it
Three tests. Today’s close is a new 252-day high. No new highs occurred in the prior 35 sessions (the basing requirement). And volume is at least 1.4 times the 50-day average (the conviction requirement). A new high on quiet volume does not qualify.
How to read it
This carries the scanner’s highest Action weight; it is the trigger the DNA stack waits for. The volume multiple matters, because breakouts on light volume fail at a much higher rate. Note that the backtested edge shown for this signal is measured on the day after the fire. Breakouts often pull back toward the pivot before working, which is context rather than contradiction.
