The Bollinger Squeeze Signal
Bollinger Band width at 6-month low. Coiled spring ready to expand.
What it detects
Bollinger Squeeze fires when a stock’s Bollinger Band width, the gap between its upper and lower volatility bands, contracts to the lowest levels of the past six months. Extreme band compression marks the market’s quietest stocks, and quiet periods tend to be followed by expansion.
How Signal52 computes it
Band width is computed from the 20-day moving average and standard deviation of closes. The signal fires when today’s width is at or near the minimum width of the trailing 126 trading days (six months), with a small tolerance above the absolute low.
How to read it
Like all compression signals, the squeeze forecasts movement, not direction. It earns DNA weight in Signal52 because squeezes occurring alongside Peak Strength or Perfect Stack, meaning compression inside an uptrend, have historically resolved with the trend. A squeeze on a broken chart deserves no such benefit of the doubt.
DNA Signals in the Elite Score: DNA signals measure structural quality: relative strength, persistent momentum, institutional accumulation, and consistent price behavior. They answer whether the stock has the right stuff. DNA signals carry the heaviest weights in the Elite Score because structure is what separates durable moves from noise.
