The Churning Signal

High volume but no price progress. Supply overwhelming demand.

What does the Churning signal detect?

Churning flags heavy effort with no result: volume at least 50% above average while price closes essentially flat, under a 1% change. All that turnover went somewhere. Supply absorbed every share demand produced.

How does Signal52 compute Churning?

Two conditions on the same session: volume at or above 1.5 times the 50-day average, and an absolute daily price change below 1%. Effort measured against outcome.

How should you read a Churning signal?

Context decides the meaning. Churning after a long advance is classic topping behavior, with enthusiastic buying met by patient and larger selling. The same tape after a decline can be constructive absorption. Signal52 flags it as risk because on the momentum-oriented names the scanner surfaces, high-volume stalls precede pullbacks more often than continuations.

Risk Signals in the Elite Score: Risk signals carry no positive weight. They are warning flags that change how a score should be read. A score of 10+ with no risk flags is a fundamentally different setup than the same score with active warnings.
