What it detects
Surge identifies stocks that made an explosive move, roughly a 50% gain in 40 trading days, and are now digesting that gain in an orderly way instead of giving it back. Of all the DNA signals, this one demands the most raw momentum.
How Signal52 computes it
Three conditions must hold at once. The 40-day gain meets the surge threshold. Price sits within a small pullback of the 40-day high. And the trading range of the last 10 days is tight relative to price. A big move alone is not enough; the stock has to be consolidating, not collapsing.
How to read it
A stock this extended can fail hard, which is why the formula requires the tight base. Historically the combination behaves very differently from a bare 50% spike. Treat Surge as a marker of momentum leadership, and weigh it against active Risk flags such as Extension, which often fires on the same names.
